My Week In A Nutshell 3/26/2017

My week in a nutshell is a weekly post I put up on Sundays to share what happened on and off the blog during the week. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Happy Sunday book nerds! I am practicing some self-care today as well as wrapping up BorrowAThon. I need to recharge myself before going to work tomorrow. Normally I would spend the day filming videos for my Booktube channel and blogging. I’m too drained to do more than this weekly wrap-up today. I will do my best to get things done during the week as far as blogging and filming.

Yesterday was a busy day for me. I took my car into the shop for some maintenance. I also spent the day shopping and got some new clothes for summer since the weather is warmer now. I also went to the movies and watched Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed it. I think it was beautifully done, but I do love the animated version more. I guess because it is the one I watched growing up. It’s a nostalgia thing.

I read quite a few books this past week because of BorrowAThon so let’s go on with the wrap up.

I FINISHED READING:

These were all books I read for BorrowAThon. I can’t pick a favorite, because they were all so great in their own way.  If you would like to know my thoughts on them you can check out my reading vlogs here.

I am slowly making my way through this chunker. It is very interesting so far and I’m hoping to reach page 200 before the end of the week. I think I can manage it since I am taking a break from participating in readathons until TomeTopple comes around in April.

I’m on chapter 5 so far. I didn’t expect it would be told from multiple perspectives based on the book summary so that threw me off a bit. Other than that I’m finding it very mysterious and fascinating.

BOOK HAUL

By the time Friday came around I needed a little bookish therapy so I went to Changing Hands during my lunch break. I should have been reading my book for BorrowAThon, but I needed a break from being in the office. I purchased a signed copy of A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab, and a signed copy of Vicious by V.E. Schwab. While I was there I also picked up a new release that I’ve been anticipating called The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by  Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I can’t to read these little gems. If you want more information on each book you can click on the book titles to access the Goodreads pages for each book.

Happy Monday! Yeah I know this is late. I was really busy on Sunday editing videos, blogging and getting some chores done. I’m not mad about it though because I feel like I accomplished the majority of what I had on my to-do list. Yay me!

Saturday was the end of Read-O-Rama Round 6. I read 6 books! I’m very surprised by this since I was pretty sure I’d get 2-3 read at the most. If you want to know my thoughts you can check out my wrap-up video below.

I FINISHED READING:

All of the books I read were for the Read-O-Rama readathon so you can check out the books in the video above.

I’m still behind on this one. I ended up setting it aside during the readathon. I am planning on setting time aside this week to get more reading done for this book even though I am participating in Borrowathon. My goal is to get to 230 by the end of the week. Fingers crossed I can stay on track.

All other books I’m currently in the middle of are for the Borrowathon. If you’d like to know what I’m reading for that you can check out the video below.

Happy Sunday book nerds! It’s the first day of Read-O-Rama Round 6. I am not sure how much reading I’ll get in today though since I have some cleaning to do and errands to run. I was going to go to the Tucson Festival of Books this weekend, but had a last minute change of plans. I’m kind of bummed about that because I was looking forward to it, but it is what it is. I’m looking at it as an opportunity to actually get the stuff on my to-do list done…well some of it anyway. I will try my best to at least get one book read before I go to bed. I know for sure that I won’t have enough time to do much reading during the week because life gets crazy. If you’d like to know what books I selected for my TBR you can check out my video here:

I really loved this collection of stories from Cisneros’ life. I listened to this as an audio book that was narrated by the author. It was very conversational, like she was telling me her life stories over coffee or tea. I loved it.

My goal is to get to page 130 today. Fingers crossed I can do it! I’m learning quite a bit about Hamilton’s early life right now. Hamilton did not get an easy start in life and from what I have read so far this made him determined to make something of himself. I’m barely on page 76 though, so I have so much more to go. I can’t wait to find out more about his interesting life.

As with all of Moore’s books this one is a bit odd. It is really weird and intriguing so far. I’m hoping this will be the book I can finish today. Fingers crossed!

I’m reading the physical book and listening to the audio on this one. I’m about 25% into the book so far. It is moving pretty quickly for me. I haven’t quite figured out how the magic or power of the forest works yet. I’m hoping Novik goes into it more so I can get a better understanding of it soon.I have so many questions right now, I’m worried I will get to the end with only half of them answered. Also, I’m not sure how I feel about certain directions part of the story is going towards. I just don’t think it is necessary for the overall plot, but we’ll see. I’m not even halfway through so there is still quite a bit of story to get through.

My Week In A Nutshell 2/12/17

Holy hell I survived the week! I didn’t think I was going to make it to be honest. It was like Monday just kept going all the way to Friday. Ever have that kind of week?

Anyway, I didn’t really get a chance to complete many books this week. Which of course means I failed on the TBR Takedown 5.0 read-a-thon. Oh well, I won’t beat myself up too much about it. I finished my non-fiction book for Jan/Feb so there is that. I’m almost done with my Feb. audio book pick so I think I can finish it before the end of today. I will just listen to it while I re-arrange my bookshelves to make room for the 47 books I got at the VNSA book sale this weekend. Yep I said 47. 47! I went a little bit crazy. I can’t help it. The books were a dollar each and the money goes to charity. A win-win if you ask me. Since I just added 47 books to it in one day, my TBR is now in the “there’s no hope in sight” category. Haha! It’s okay, I’m not worried about it. I know I will get to them eventually. If you’d like more info on the VNSA sale just click here. It was an awesome experience and if you are in the area I recommend you check it out. Just be prepared to stand in line to get into the sale.

I did a video on my book haul for Jan/Feb but I’ll give you a sneak peek at my VNSA haul below.

My Week In A Nutshell 2/5/17

My week in a nutshell is a weekly post I put up on Sundays to share what happened on and off the blog during the week. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

The week is finally over! I had a rough one, and I’m not expecting things to improve over night. I hope you all are taking time to practice self-care. Life is pretty hectic and it is easy to get bogged down with all the crap. I know because it happened to me this week and last week. We all just need to remember to BREATHE. Also, be kind to each other. It’s sad how much people forget to just be kind. It’s such a small thing to do and yet so many people don’t bother. The world would be a better place if we all remembered to practice some kindness.

I’ve had a slow start to my reading this month. I’m not in a slump by any means. I’m just taking my time with the books I have been reading. I want to make sure I’m not just flying through them and missing out on retaining lessons the books contain. It is one of the down sides to being a fast reader. It’s not easy to slow down, so I’m annotating or note taking as I read. I find that works best when I want to ease up on my reading pace.

Nothing else really happened this week, just trying to manage stress and my anxiety. There are some challenges coming up that I’m looking forward to for both reading and my blog. I will let you know more when it comes time to do my sign-up posts. Also a huge used book sale is happening in my area next weekend so that’s exciting! I might do a combo of a haul and blog about the experience. I’ll try to remember to take pictures. Let’s go ahead with the wrap – up for now.

MOST PLAYED SONG THIS WEEK

Since I listened to two audio books I didn’t really listen to very much music at work this week. I’m up for adding something to my Spotify playlist though so if you have any suggestions let me know down in the comments. 🙂

BOOKS I READ THIS WEEK

I’m participating in #FeministLitFeb this month, so I have quite a bit of non-fiction I want to read. I just finished We Should All Be Feminists  by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and loved it. It is a beautifully written essay about gender, the negative connotations around the word feminist, and why feminism is still important today. It is in my opinion an extremely important read, and I wish everyone would read it.

I also finished an audio book I borrowed from my library via my OverDrive app called The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I can’t believe I have waited this long to experience Diaz’s work. I freaking love it. I’m going to write a review of it soon so I won’t go too much into it now. I’ll just say this is an amazing debut novel that follows a Dominican-American teenager called Oscar and his pursuit of love. That is really simplifying a complex whirlwind of a novel, but I’ll go more into it later. I promise!

I finished my second audio book of the month, also borrowed from my library via my OverDrive app (like seriously if you live on a budget like me this app + your library card will open worlds for you my friend), called Yes Please! by Amy Poehler. Amy Poehler is an actress/comedian. I’m pretty sure you all know who she is if you have ever watched SNL or Parks and Recreation. I have only seen some of her movies and her work on  SNL. She’s hilarious and her tongue-in-cheek humor really comes through on the audio book. She narrates it herself along with some guests. I think that is part of why I liked it so much. It just felt like she was having a one-on-one conversation with me. I really loved it and now I feel the need to binge watch Parks and Recreation on Netflix.

Those are the three books I’ve finished this week. If you want more of my thoughts and ratings on each one you can check out my weekly reading vlog on my YouTube channel. I know I want to do a full review on the Junot Diaz book, but I’m not sure if I’ll write a review for the other two. I just feel so weird writing a review for a non-fiction book. I should probably get over that.

My Week In A Nutshell 1/29/17

Hey Book Nerds!

I hope you are all having a good weekend. I’ve been fighting off a migraine. Every time I think I have it under control I see the news or login into social media and the damn migraine is back again. I know it is stress. We are living in a very stressful world right now. Please don’t tell me not to stress it. That just makes me mad and makes my headache even worse. I can’t control my anxiety. It’s incredibly frustrating when people tell me it is mind over matter and to just turn it off. I’m sorry it doesn’t work that way. I’m doing my best to practice self-care. I stayed home all weekend and I’m trying to avoid social media. It’s hard when my notifications go off and then well I read my feed. I might have to just put my phone in “Do Not Disturb” mode until my anxiety levels go down. I know I’m not the only one out there that suffers from it so if you have any coping tips feel free to let me know down below. Just don’t tell me it’s going to be okay. That does not help at all and it makes me feel like I’m being told my feelings are invalid.

That said on to bookish shit. This was the final week of the Winter’s Respite read-a-thon and I’m happy to say I think it was fairly successful. I will be posting my wrap up for the read-a-thon soon. I still have to film it, which was the plan for this weekend but well see paragraph above.

The blog was a bit quiet this week. I apologize for that. Please be patient as I’m still trying to get back into my schedule since the whole being sick thing. I doesn’t help that I still am not 100% because my anxiety is so damn high. I will be back on track for February though, I’ve already started scheduling posts for that month both here and on my YouTube channel.

MY CURRENT ADDICTION

It’s a book actually. I normally try to find something not book related for this section but nope not this time. Susan Cain’s Quiet is just..wow. I have no words. If you could hear me while I’m reading it, it’d go something like:

“Yes!”

“Holy shit yes!”

“Oh my gawd yes!”

“Preach!”

Yeah, I’m sure my neighbors might think I’m doing something other than reading. I can’t help it though, I’ve never identified with a book so strongly before. Introverts unite! Quietly of course but UNITE!

BOOKS I READ THIS WEEK

They were all part of the Winter’s Respite read-a-thon so I won’t post them yet. Once I upload the video I will share it with you.
