Must Read Mondays | 2018 New Releases

Happy Monday book nerds! So normally on Must Read Mondays, I give book recommendations. This Monday, however, I wanted to let you know what 2018 new releases are on my Want To Read list. I figured not only will this let you know what I’m looking forward to this year, but I can refer to this post when I’m at the library or shopping for books. I have quite a list of books on my radar so without further ado let’s get into the books!

January 2018 New Releases

The Cruel Prince: The Folk of the Air by Holly Black – It’s a book about the fae. Need I say more?

The Widows of Malabar Hill (Perveen Mistry #1) by Sujata Massey – This is a mystery set in Bombay in 1921. The main character is one of the first female lawyers in India and fights for women’s rights.

Robots vs. Fairies edited by Dominik Parisien and Navah Wolfe – A collection of short stories featuring robots vs. fairies. I can’t wait to dive into this ultimate nerdfest.

The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin: The story of the four Gold children, who are told the dates of their deaths by a fortune teller, and how that knowledge informs the decisions they make in their lives. The concept behind this one is intriguing to me. If you knew the day that you would die would you do things differently? I’m interested in knowing how this knowledge colors the choices that these four individuals will make.

The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn – This debut thriller is about a woman with agoraphobia who thinks she has witnessed a murder in the house across the street. The police consider her an unreliable witness. The reader has to figure out if she did see what she saw or is it all in her head?

February 2018 New Releases

The Friend by Sigrid Nunez: A woman inherits a Great Dane after her best friend dies unexpectedly. Together they will help each other deal with the loss of friend and master. I love books with animals in them. I’m a total sucker especially for dogs and cats so I really want to get my hands on this one.

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton: Camellia is a Belle in Orleans, where beauty is a commodity. But being a Belle is not enough for Camellia, she wants more: She wants to be the Queen’s favorite Belle. But, as she will learn, dreams have a price. I love this cover and based on what everyone has been saying I’m expecting this to be a fast and easy read.

All the Names They Used for God: Stories by Anjali Sachdeva: A debut collection of diverse stories that explore characters’ struggle with fate throughout a span of centuries. Again, gorgeous cover! I am looking to read more anthologies this year. I don’t read nearly enough short fiction and this one has caught my interest.

35898509

Some Hell by Patrick Nathan: This debut novel is a heart wrenching coming-of-age story of a gay teen dealing with the aftermath of his father’s suicide. I am expecting to feel ALL THE FEELS!

29451548.jpg

A Girl Like That by Tanaz Bhathena: Told from multiple perspectives this novel is a story of self-discovery and angsty romance that tackles important topics like race, identity, class, and religion. I am loving the cover of this one as well. I’m expecting this one will also hit me in the FEELS based on the description on Goodreads.

March 2018 New Releases

35604591.jpg

The House of Broken Angels by Luis Alberto Urrea: The patriarch of the De La Cruz family summons his relatives together for one last legendary birthday party before he dies. Epic family sagas are my thing lately so I’m eager to get my hands on this gem.

34728667.jpg

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi: An enchanting tale of magic, royalty, and vengeance that tackles topics, like racism and prejudice. Everyone is talking about this one and I can’t wait to see if it will live up to the hype.

April 2018 New Releases

30223025.jpg

Dread Nation by Justina Ireland: I’m not usually one for zombie stories. They totally freak me out. I’m trying to bust out of my comfort zone when it comes to horror though so a story about a zombie infestation that takes place during the Civil War era and changes the course of history seems like the perfect book to face my people-eater fears head-on.

32454291

Circe by Madeline Miller: All I needed to know about this one was that it is a story about Circe. I love stories steeped in mythology so I’m so ready for this one.

35297351.jpg

Heads of the Colored People: Stories by Nafissa Thompson-Spires: A collection of short stories that is being compared to the works of Junot Diaz. That’s all I had to know to make me want to pick this one up.

35274560

Unbury Carol by Josh Malerman: Carol Evers has an odd condition. She has the ability to fall into comas and make people think she is dead. She has done this many times, each episode lasting days. Only two people in the world know her secret, one being her greedy husband that has married Carol for her money. When her next episode occurs, he seizes the opportunity to have her declared dead and buried…alive. This dark thriller is so up my alley. I must get my hands on it.

June 2018 New Releases

35430013

A Thousand Beginnings and Endings by Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman: A collection of short stories based on the folklore and mythology of East and South Asia. Yas! As I stated before I love stories that are based on mythology so I cannot wait for this one.

Those are all the 2018 new releases that are currently on my radar. I’m going to see if I can borrow these from my library so I can read them prior to purchasing. My physical TBR is so out of control that I am running out of room to store the books.

What 2018 new releases are you excited for? Are any of the ones I have here on my list on your radar too? Let’s chat down below in the comments.

Happy Reading!
