{Book Review} Kill Without Mercy (ARES Security #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Alexandra Ivy starts her new series, ARES Security, with a bang. The first book, Kill Without Mercy is jammed packed with action, mystery, and memorable characters. The men of ARES are all ex-military, each with their own special set of skills that make the team run effortlessly and smooth. Rafe Vargas, is the glue that holds this band of brothers together. After seeing the men who survived hell with him struggle once they were home again, Rafe came up with the idea to start a security company together and ARES Security was born. While in the process of starting up the new business, Rafe receives news that sends him back to his grandfather’s home to pack up and clean out the house. Once he arrives in the small town he learns that women are going missing and a stranger he just met, Annie White, may be in danger. Rafe finds himself inexplicably drawn to Annie and inserts himself into the investigation.

I really enjoyed the slow build-up in the relationship between Annie and Rafe. The attraction sparks between them almost immediately, but Annie refuses to just fall into Rafe’s arms. She’s wary and unsure if she can trust him with her secrets at first. Rafe is stubborn and determined to protect Annie whether she likes it or not. I absolutely loved Annie’s independent persona and spunk. She’s not a damsel in distress and refuses to let anyone turn her into one.

This romance is packed with action and suspense. There are many plot twists that keep the story moving and made it hard for me to put it down. There are few subplots that were left hanging, but I think that those will be cleared up in the following books since they revolved around the other men on the ARES team. The ending of this first installment was pretty intense, and parts of it caught me completely by surprise. I won’t go into detail though, because I don’t want to give anything away.

Overall, Kill Without Mercy is a thrilling romantic read. I could not put it down. There are so many plot twists all the way to the end that just kept me turning the pages. I really like Annie’s character and how much she makes Rafe work to win her heart. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I’m kind of hoping it will be Hauk’s because he is mysterious and fascinating. I’m curious to see what kind of woman would make him fall. I highly recommend lovers of romantic suspense give this one a try. I think you’re going to love it!
